In its short history, the Poker Gods League has welcomed a number of new players to the group. This Sunday, it was the turn of Rusty - a native of Georgia (US, not Europe) to show us his mettle. I'm sure he was completely unaware of the previous results of our guest players, so here's a quick summary of some impressive outcomes:
March 2023 Csabi - 1st
July 2023 Ales - 1st
December 2023 Ted - 2nd
July 2024 Dylan - 2nd
October 2024 Sinead - 2nd
As the regular drama unfolded in the early stages, Rusty was keeping his powder dry. Choosing his moments with great care, he avoided giving away any clues to his game. I'm sure he was surprised when, in only the second or third hand, it was revealed that Hadley had flopped quad 9's. Although not surprised as much as Steve, whose only correct reading was that she didn't have trips - oops!
Hadley's fortunes began to change when she hit a boat (7's over 6's) - primarily because her boat collided with Zack's bigger boat (7's over 10's). Further calamities followed for the regular players, as one by one we fell. Rusty was slowly becoming more active, and must have been happy with his pocket A's and 3 of us all-in. Alas, Robert busted those bullets with a K7 boat, but Rusty was only down, not out.
Ultimately it was down to Ug to try and stop the quiet juggernaut that Rusty had become, but in the heads-up he was bullied into submission. So congratulations to our latest noob on his well-deserved victory. Let's hope he returns quickly and often - if he becomes a regular in the future, we may just have a chance.
